This is the constitution-level document of Not Rest: what NOTREST is, why it exists, what it is trying to become, and the principles that must remain true as the system scales. It is published in full, unedited, in four parts. Use the arrows to move through them.

Governance. This document obeys its own constitutional layer. Section numbers are frozen identifiers — amendments append new sections (or letter-suffixed sections such as 30A) and existing sections are never renumbered. Changes to Part IV — the core values, the non-negotiables, the permanent question — require the owner's explicit written confirmation, recorded in the change log.

  1. Part I — Why — sections 1–6, with the preamble: the category, the vision, the ambition, and human agency.
  2. Part II — Principles — sections 7–37: how the system must behave, whoever builds it.
  3. Part III — The Substrate — sections 38–57: the infrastructure that makes the principles executable.
  4. Part IV — The Constitution — sections 58–62: the values, the non-negotiables, the permanent question, and this document's own governance.
