Every system has to decide what is permanent. Most choose wrong: they weld in the technology, the language, the vendor, the org chart — and then spend years unable to move. not.rest fixes almost nothing. What is fixed is tiny and load-bearing: the contracts — what each agent promises, needs, and may touch — and the invariants that make agents compose. Everything else is fluid by design: which agents exist, what they are named, what language they are written in, how their insides work, which model or vendor sits underneath.

What the contracts buy

Fluidity is what the contracts pay for. Because agents depend only on each other’s declared capabilities — never on internals — an implementation can be rewritten in another language, moved to another machine, or swapped for something better, and nothing around it notices. Versions rotate through the swarm and earn their place by use; the ones that work concentrate, the ones that don’t fade. The identity that persists is the contract, the way a river keeps its name while none of its water stays.

Choose for now

The discipline chooses for now, on purpose. Not for an imagined permanent future — for the present, revisably. That is not indecision; it is the posture that makes decisions cheap enough to make well. When the cost of changing your mind approaches zero, you stop defending old choices and start measuring them.

Even the boundary is fluid

The line between fixed and fluid is itself managed, not frozen. A fluid thing that proves load-bearing earns promotion to fixed; a fixed rule that fights reality gets loosened — openly, with a version bump, on the record. The doctrine that governs all of this is provisional by its own declaration. A system that cannot revise its own rules has welded in the most dangerous component of all: its certainties.

The field shows you the posture. The curves never hold still; press a ring and it gathers into form; release, and it flows again. Form is something the field does, not something it is — held exactly as long as it is useful, never a moment longer. That is fluid, and it is how the company underneath intends to stay.
